22.02: OMFI CONCERT

On Wednesday February 22, the Chapelle du Grand Hospice will resound to the sound of improvised musical performances by Stan Maris, Dimitri Coppe and Tom Malmendier. Three amazing artists brought together for one evening by the OMFI collective (One Moment Free Improv').

For each OMFI concert, the collective invites three musicians from different musical backgrounds and practices to perform a 20-25 minute solo improvisation. The aim is for these artists to play with the ambience and sound characteristics of the venue where they perform, namely our Chapelle, with its exceptional acoustics. The evening ends with a musical encounter in Trio or Duo. A real invitation to an experimental journey. 

The guest artists for the February 22 edition are : 

  • Stan Maris: Belgian accordionist and composer, mainly active on the jazz and improvised music scenes. In addition to his solo work, Stan currently (co-)leads Kreis, Ocean Eddie, Suura, Erem, Belle//Maris, Kin Gajo and ONVERSTERKT. Find out more here.
  • Dimitri Coppe: Belgian musician, mainly active in acousmatic composition and electronic improvisation, but also in sound installations and radio collaborations, film and dance. He is a member of the mxsx duo formed with JJ Duerinckx. Listen to him here.
  • Tom Malmendier: mainly self-taught, initially attracted by sound rather than technique, and by the desire to make noise rather than to become a musician. Improvisation soon became an essential part of his playing. Find out more here.

The OMFI collective's mission is to disseminate improvised music as widely as possible, making it accessible to the general public and dispelling the prejudices it suffers from. The evening of February 22 is just the first in this cycle of events dedicated to musical spontaneity and focused on solo performance. Join the collective and their talented guests on the evenings of March 15, April 26, May 17 and June 14 in our splendid Chapelle.
